Dance and Performance Series

Since Dia's inception in 1974, it has been part of our mission to “commission artists to create works and projects in dance, musical composition, and other performing arts.” The Dia Dance program at 155 Mercer Street in SoHo ran from 1986-1995. Known as the center of the “downtown dance scene,” the program fostered a community of artists including well-known choreographers such as Arthur Aviles, Bill T. Jones, Molissa Fenley, Ralph Lemon, Yves Musard, Sarah Rudner, and Anna Sokolow. We have continued our Dance and Performance Program at Dia:Beacon, and since 2003, performances have been presented by Joan Jonas (2005-6); Robert Whitman (2003 and 2011); Merce Cunningham Dance Company (2007-9); Trisha Brown Dance Company (2009-10); and Yvonne Rainer (2011-12).
